In addition to cash, a wonderful gift for recent college, professional degree and post-college graduates is personalized pencils with their degree initials.  Just don't go crazy with punctuation, which doesn't work great on personalized pencils.

I can tell you from personal experience, personalized pencils are great motivators for elementary school aged children.  Just tell the children that the pencils really want to earn A's, and it's up to the kids to help them do it.
